Thanks Pom and Ritesh for a good time had by all.

You won't want to miss this month's meeting this Thursday, 7/8/2010! We'll be hearing about Routing Service in WCF 4.0 from Ritesh Kothari. Ritesh has spoken to our group several times since his first appearance last October in our Speaker Idol contest. Ritesh is a great speaker with deep knowledge of .Net, so be sure to be there!

Anupam Chakravarty will also be speaking about SharePoint. Pom has worked with SharePoint for the past couple of years and will share his experiences with us. You don't want to miss that!

The meeting stats are per usual:

Don't forget out Windows Phone 7 programming contest! You can write either a Silverlight or XNA app that runs on the Windows Phone 7 emulator for a chance to win some great prizes.

  • You will demo your app at the October meeting
  • Winners will be decided by attendee voting at the October meeting

A Boy And His Phone

6/10/2010 jeffa

Here's a silly bit of presentational fluff that I used in my intro for Glen Gordon who was speaking about Windows Phone 7.

Some folks thought it was funny, so I'll share it here.

A Boy And His Phone

One warning: It is over 12 MB, so depending on your connection speed it may take a while to download.

I hope you like it and think it is funny. Especially if your name is Bill or Steve. And I further hope you are inspired to send me a Windows Phone 7...

Glen Gordon Rocked Phone 7 Last Night!

For anyone who missed our meeting last night, I have to say you missed a great one. Glen showed us some really cool stuff! I am personally very enthused about the effort the team put into making Phone 7 as battery conscious as possible. I think the push notification is especially promising.

Windows Phone 7 Contest

Don't forget that GGMUG is sponsoring a Windows 7 development contest for our October meeting! You can do a Silverlight App or an XNA App. You have to be present to win and you must have attended at least one prior meeting. Members in attendance will vote for the winner.

Shoot me an email at info@ggmug.com to let me know you want to enter.

GGMUG Meeting THIS Thursday (June 10, 2010)

Our June meeting will be this Thursday, June 10, 2010 in our usual place and at our usual time:

  • 6:30 PM
  • Gwinnett Technical College
  • Building 100
  • Room 401

This month we're fortunate to have Glen Gordon from Microsoft doing a deeper dive into Windows Phone 7 development. He will even have a REAL Windows Phone 7 device to show us!

Windows Phone and the Cloud

Glen Gordon
Microsoft Developer Evangelist and Possesser Of A Windows Phone 7 Actual Device...

Come learn about how easily Windows Phone 7 lets you create experiences for users that leverage the power of the cloud. We’ll start by looking at using the Microsoft Location Service for obtaining location information and the Microsoft Push Notification Service to provide “live” updates for apps running on the device. We’ll also look at incorporating Windows Azure cloud services into your Windows Phone 7 applications.

Third Annual GGMUG Contest!

As was announced at the last meeting, our contest for this year will be to develop the best Windows Phone 7 app.

More details will be announced later, but in a nutshell you have to attend at least two GGMUG meetings (including the October 2010 meeting) to be eligible. You can create either a Silverlight or XNA app that runs in the Phone 7 Emulator. You will get to demo your app at the October meeting and we will have a vote of all members in attendance.

Ties will be decided by either an additional vote or a dance-off depending on the mood and whims of the mob, er members in attendance.

If you would like to enter, please email me at info@ggmug.com and let me know you are interested.

There will be prizes, but I don't yet know what they will be...

Give Camp

I've mentioned the Give Camp we are planning for the Atlanta area, and we are getting very close to having a venue locked down. If all goes well the event will occur in January. More info on that one as soon as we get official confirmation.

There will also be a Give Camp in Augusta this August. I would love to have a GGMUG team head down there, so if you think you would interested in a road trip with a purpose, please email me ASAP to let me know you want to go. We need about 5 or 6 people to make a team.

I'd also like to get an idea of who would like to be on the team for the Atlanta area Give Camp.

In either case, just send me an email at info@ggmug.com and let me know you are interested.

See You Thursday!
