Website Collapse- Meltdown and Apocalypse

1/1/2009 jeffa

Whew! What a New Year's Day it has been for me!

I received the first email just before noon. It said the GGMUG website was down. Uh oh!

We were using, and it was very unhappy. Seems some files had gone missing. Don't know why.

Meanwhile I've been working on simplified blogging software for my webcomic site Funzietown, and I figured I could repurpose that more quickly than I could figure out what was wrong on the existing blog software.

So here we are. Just past 8 PM on New Year's Day, and I'm able to enter a new blog entry. I also brought over a couple of the older blog posts, and I'll bring the rest in a day or so. Everything is pretty plain looking at the moment, but I can spruce things up this weekend.

Switching to my own software has the added advantage that I can do many more things than I could with the other blog software. Just not tonight...

The register function is down at the moment, so if you are here wanting to register for email updates, just use the Contact Us link above and include your name and email address.

Thanks to everyone who emailed to let me know there was a problem.

January Meeting is January 8 at 6:30 PM

I'm going to send an email and post more details here once I get final confirmation from our speaker. I do have confirmation from Cliff Jacobson that he is going to do a recap of the MSDN Conference from a couple weeks ago. We learned a bunch of cool stuff and Cliff is going to recap a bit of it.

Happy New Year!

Just got back from our first meeting and it was AWESOME!

A HUGE thanks to Gwinnett Technical College for providing the meeting space. The room is absolutely perfect.

Huge thanks to Microsoft and SRA International for the prizes and speakers. Doug Turnure, Microsoft Developer Evangelist, gave a very informative intro to WCF and the RESTful model. Noah Subrin, SRA International Senior Developer, continued the WCF topic forward to inter-operating with Workflow. Thanks guys!

Another HUGE thanks to Magnic and Sergey Barskiy for our pizza feast.

Thanks to everyone who came out.

Here are a couple of pictures of Noah's presentation. Sorry for the quality, they are from my cell phone...

We had about 35 people, which is great for a first meeting! The next step is to promote, promote, promote and grow the group. So get the word out! Second Thursday, Gwinnett Technical College, 6:30 PM.
